Maltese Shield Volunteer Training: Preventing Telephone and Online Fraud

Course Details
Dear Volunteers,
The Order of Malta Relief Organisation in Estonia is launching a new volunteer programme called Maltese Shield, aimed at informing people about the risks of telephone and online fraud and preventing related problems. The project partner is the Estonian Banking Association.
Almost every day, someone in Estonia falls victim to financial fraud. Fraudsters, using pleasant and professional-sounding conversations, deceive people and extract money from them both over the phone and online.
According to statistics from the Police and Border Guard Board, more than eight million euros have already been fraudulently taken from Estonian residents this year alone through investment, banking, and parcel scams.
The Maltese Shield programme includes visits by volunteers from the Order of Malta Estonia to day centres, care homes, libraries, family health centres, various congregations, etc., to inform primarily elderly people and other vulnerable social groups about fraud risks in both Estonian and Russian.
Volunteers will provide simple, easy-to-understand guidance on recognising scam calls and messages and avoiding falling into the hands of fraudsters.
Volunteers participating in the project will first undergo volunteer training organised by the Estonian Banking Association.
The first volunteer training will take place on Monday, 8 December, from 18:00 to 20:30 at Admirals Lounge (Maakri 19/1, 29th floor). The trainer will be Kätlin Kukk, Head of SEB Security Centre.
